Hemp seeds are the by-product of a plant farmed for its fibre and biomass. However, they just happen to have an almost "complete" amino acid profile when compared to other proteins and are only second in percentage protein content (approx. 33%) to soy beans. They are mainly made up of healthy edible oils high in essential fatty acids- linoleic, omega 6 and 3. They must be used sparingly as overuse can get birds too stimulated. Much liked by a wide variety of birds including Finches, Canaries, Budgerigars and Parakeets.
